Sheep Mountain Lodge is located near the Matanuska Glacier and the world-famous Lion's Head river run on the Matanuska River. Make our lodge your home after a thrilling day on the river.

We have over 12 miles of cleared trails for easy walks and challenging hikes into the mountains. In the fall, berry hunters will make a tasty haul of the many types of lush fruits. We have a trail map for self-guided hikes or guided hiking is available by pre-reservation. Birds and wildflowers abound.

Our lodge is located a short 12 miles from access to the Matanuska Glacier. You can spend a few hours exploring the glacier or take a guided hike to see the glacier's wondrous features. Guided glacier hiking gets you out on the ice, for a unique Alaska experience. We recommend MICA Guides for glacier hiking or ice-climbing, no experience is necessary. |
Sheep Mountain is a shutterbug's paradise with breath-taking views of Lion's Head, the Matanuska River Valley and the lofty, rocky crags of the Talkeetna and Chugach Mountains.

Sheep Mountain shelters a large population of Dall Sheep. Moose and sheep are commonly viewed in the surrounding mountains and valleys.

Cross-Country Skiing

Serving the Sheep Mountain area for over 25 years. Highly recommended, experienced bush pilots offer 30 minute to 2 hour flight seeing trips. Breathtaking views and possible wildlife sightings. |
Over 12 miles of classical and skate skiing trails are groomed for beginner to advanced skill levels. In addition, there is access to unlimited backcountry skiing. After a day's ski, relax in our woodstove sauna or Jacuzzi hot tub.
